Evelyn C. Flessate passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2014 in Alexandria after a hard-fought three-year battle with cervical cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald C. “Jerry” Flessate and mother of Denise Harley, Greg Flessate, Renee Moffett and their spouses Mario, Kristen and Scott. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Caitlin, Nicholas, Danielle, Kylee, Brandon, Kendall, Jeremy, and her beloved dog, Cody.
Born and raised in Alexandria, VA, she attended St. Mary’s Academy High School, Class of 1952. As a U.S. government employee she worked in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps information group and later in public affairs at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), where both she and her husband Jerry worked.
While at DLA, in addition to working on newsletters and publications, she was instrumental in the Adopt-A-School program and organizing the annual picnics, blood drives and health screenings. It was during one of the screenings she organized that she found out that she herself had breast cancer. She was a proud survivor of breast cancer for well over 20 years.
She enjoyed boating with her husband and their property in Annapolis until his death in 1999. She also enjoyed the family beach home in Emerald Isle, NC, which became her annual vacation spot for 45 years.
Arrangements are as follows:
