Thomas Mullaney

June 20, 1936 ~ July 12, 2014 (age 78) 78 Years Old
Thomas Howard Mullaney, 78, passed in peace on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at home in Alexandria with his beloved wife Lori by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.  Tom was born June 20, 1936 to the late Charles and Rose (Govoni) Mullaney of Duxbury, MA.  He graduated from Duxbury High School and Northeastern University.
Tom worked at Thomson & Thomson, a business leader in trademark searching and brand protection, during his entire professional career.  His career as Vice President of Sales spanned 40 years until his retirement in 1999.  He moved from the Boston area to Alexandria, VA in 2002 where he took on part-time work that allowed him to remain active and interact with people from various walks of life.  He married Lori Cooper after a long and loving courtship and she remained his closest confidante, comforting caregiver, and cherished companion to his last days.
Tom is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Ellen Dunn, son Tommy, daughter Terry Elizabeth, and brother Monsignor Bernard of San Antonio, TX.  He was a loving father too, and is survived by, his sons Scott Mullaney of Manassas, VA, David (Elise) Mullaney of Wilmington, NC, Steven (Jessica) Mullaney of Roseville, CA, and John (Maggie) Mullaney of Pembroke, MA. He was stepfather and friend to Madeleine (Ben Madorsky) Rowan of Brooklyn, NY and David Rowan of Carrboro, NC. Tom was the proud and adored grandfather and ‘Pops’ to Thomas David, Courtney Marjorie, Taylor Caroline, David Dunn, Connor Cornelius, Jack Steven, Douglas Cole, Brooklyn Isabella, and Clyde Rowan.  He will be fondly remembered as a loving father, trusted listener, humorist, and all-around great conversationalist.  He loved to travel and visited all 50 United States and numerous countries where he enjoyed experiencing different cultures, landscapes, and people.
Most of all, Tom enjoyed simple pleasures like reading, spending time with his family and friends, bird watching from his hammock in his backyard, sitting with his dogs Indie, Sandy, Sunny, and cheering on his beloved Boston sports teams at local establishments. He had a love for the ocean, culture, restaurants, and enjoyed long talks and walks with family, friends, and neighbors.
A celebration of life service for Tom will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302 on Saturday, July 19th at 10 a.m.
His family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s memory to Capital Caring Hospice www.capitalcaring.org or the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter (www.alexandriaanimals.org).  Lori and the entire family would like to especially thank Capital Caring Hospice and, in particular, Dian Weber, for their compassion and support in Tom’s final months.
