Alberto Antonio Jimenez, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Frank and Antonia Jimenez. He married his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen Alvarez Jimenez, while serving in the United States Air Force. As an engineer/scientist he worked for Douglas Aircraft Company and Hughes Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, CA. During his time at Hughes Aircraft he worked on the communication systems for Mark-1A, Surveyor, and Mark-1B satellites. He completed a professional career of 41 years with The United States Department of Transportation in the Offices of Automotive Defects and Investigation, in Washington D.C. Al was a quiet man who had a great love of laughter and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Edward and Alberta Jimenez. He is survived by his wife, Helen and four loving daughters: Roma and her husband Wayne Smith; Joan Jimenez; Ellen and her husband Roger LaPlante; and Bianca Ann Jimenez. Grandchildren: Sarah Smith Deaton and her husband James and their children Shane and Colin; John Paul Smith and Meropi Peponides; Nicole Jimenez-Franklin and her daughter, Molly; Dr. Maria LaPlante and Dr. Brian Creasy and their children Antonio and Maureen; Joshua LaPlante and his wife Stephanie and their children, Logan, Jacob and Abby; Desirée Jimenez-Jameson and her husband Paul and their children, Angel and Devin. He is also survived by his brother Alex Jimenez and his wife Josie and numerous nieces and nephews. Family, friends, and others whose lives Al touched are invited on January 8th, 5:00 PM at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302 for a communal Rosary followed by visitation. A Mass of Christian burial will be at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church 4401 Sano St, Alexandria, VA 22312 on January 9th, at 10:30 AM followed by internment at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd.,Triangle, VA.
