Carmel Helen Dempsey Fitzpatrick

Carmel Helen Dempsey Fitzpatrick, age 93, long-time resident of Arlington, VA, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Greenspring Retirement Community. Born in The Bronx, New York, the daughter of Peter Borgia Dempsey and Carmel Draddy Dempsey. She worked for many years with the New York Central Railroad and retired from the Arlington County Public Schools.  Carmel was predeceased by her husband, John Julian Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her children; Carmel Anne Steindam (Tom) of Falls Church, VA, John Peter Fitzpatrick of Arlington, VA and Margaret Mary Black (Cole) of Ashburn, VA; and her grandchildren, Megan, Claire, Madeline, Olivia and Hannah. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1427 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302.
