Passed from this life on September 24, 2017. A native of Arlington, VA, Edward is survived by his beloved partner and spouse of many years, Charles (“Chuck”) Johnson, devoted sister Carol Devens, and departed sister Arlene Kuser, as well as brothers-in-law John Devens and David Kuser, nephews John E, Christopher, Michael, Edward "Ted" Devens and Allen Kuser, and niece Christine Kuser Oliff. Great-nieces and nephews Jennifer, Lauren, Christopher, John M, Jeffrey, Catherine, Michael W, John W, Tara, James and Patrick Devens, Stephanie Tudor, Hailey Oliff and Jordan Kuser. He received his degree from Catholic University, served his country in the US Air Force, and returned to Catholic U. to complete his doctoral course work in International Organizations. He began his career at the Library of Congress in 1968, where he served Congress and the public until his retirement in 1996. Charles, a senior aeronautical engineer, retired from the US Navy shortly after and they began a well-deserved retirement in Alexandria, rich with travels, family and dear friends. They enjoyed cruises and visits throughout Europe, with many stops in England to indulge Edward’s love of British history, the monarchy, and antiquities. An horology and opera devotee, Edward was also a passionate audiophile and videophile, delighting in the newest electronics, and Charles' exceptional cabinetry skills housed much of the equipment for their enjoyment. Edward’s incisive wit, expansive knowledge and broad interests made him a favorite at family gatherings, and will be remembered fondly and missed terribly by all. A memorial service will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302 on Sunday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m.
