John passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017, after a short period of declining health. He was born to Ethel Diehl Bauserman and Bernard Lionel Bauserman in Washington, D.C., on October 20, 1941, living for most of his life first as resident of Cleveland Park in Washington, D.C. and then since 1969 in the City of Alexandria. John was a graduate of Wilson High School in the District of Columbia and of The American University. He was a career employee of the federal government, retiring from the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development in 2005. John was one of the original founders in 1985 of the Children’s Rights Council (CRC), a national non-profit joint custody advocacy organization. He remained a lifetime member of the CRC and was a skilled researcher and committed advocate for joint custody for the remainder of his life. He loved the City of Alexandria and all the friendships, wonderful neighbors and civic groups he found there.
John is remembered by his family and friends as a devoted companion and loving husband for 35 years to his wife, Charlene Bopp, and a wonderful father, grandfather and family man. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, his three sons, John, Jr., Robert and Edward Bauserman, his daughters in law Deborah Clark-Bauserman, Kim Shifren, and grandchildren, Cameron, Alexander and Kayla.
