Richard “Dick” Boyd, 75, a long-time Alexandria and Woodbridge, VA native died at Winchester Hospital on June 27. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Mechanic for the City of Alexandria for 35 years retiring to Winchester, VA in 1996. He was born in Washington, D.C. to the late John H. Boyd, Jr. and Elizabeth M. Boyd of Alexandria, VA. He was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Alexandria then Our Lady of Angels in Woodbridge and finally Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winchester, VA.
Richard Boyd graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in December 1962. He married his beloved Dorothy Ann Bell May 28, 1966. He is survived by his three children, Richard C. Boyd, Jr and of Bealeton, VA, Dr. Tena E. Boyd Corbin of Rixeyville, VA, and Rollie A. Boyd of Front Royal, VA; two grandsons, Chanse Madison Boyd Walker and Wesley Xander Boyd Walker of Dale City. He is predeceased by two brothers, John H. Boyd, III and James P. Boyd, Sr. As well, he is survived by one brother, Robert A. Boyd of Clifton, VA, sister-in-law Carolyn Bell Rutherford of Pipe Creek, TX, sister-in-law Evelyn Boyd of Centerville, VA, brother-in-law John B. Bell, Jr of Columbia, MD and numerous devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive visitors from 7 – 9 PM on Thursday, July 6 at the Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria. Funeral mass will be held at Noon on Friday, July 7 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 1427 W. Braddock Rd with interment at the Mount Comfort Cemetery 6600 S King Hwy, Alexandria. There will also be a memorial service 2 PM Sunday, July 9 at Redland United Methodist Church 6540 N. Frederick Pike, Cross Junction, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Redland UMC.
