Sampati Pearl Persaud

Sampati Pearl Persaud (known as Pearl) was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on April 18, 1931. In 1947, she met Ronald Persaud in Junior Luther League at church in Georgetown. They were married in 1948 and became the parents of seven children – five girls and two boys: Sabena, Ronald, Aloma, Eva, Ingrid, Enrico, and Jinnie – and eventually grandparents of 18 and great grandparents of 8. Her siblings are Sonia, Jean, Zena, Alma (deceased), and Compton (deceased).
Pearl and Ron immigrated to the US in 1993 where they lived with their beloved grandson, Lester, until Ron departed this earth in 2010.
Pearl never lost her sense of style. Beautiful hats and vivid colors were always part of her wardrobe. She was most passionate about her cooking, but also loved reading, gardening, music, and watching old movies – the latter two passions combining whenever Turner Classics featured her and Ron’s favorite, Mario Lanza. Pearl loved her community and her church, and her adopted country.
Pearl Persaud passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by four of her daughters and her grandson Lester, at noon on December 9th. Her wonderful presence, her humor, her cooking, and her strength of character will always be a shining example for her large and extended family and the many dear friends she leaves behind. What an amazing and loving person she was!
