I couldn't believe it when I heard the news from Alexandria that Tommy K had left this world. I was stunned.

I knew Tommy starting in the Maury School days and our lives went in separate ways after high school.

After all those years, upon hearing the news, I remembered Tom as a good guy: curly blonde hair, blue eyes, great smile, friendly and liked by all.

We will all meet again one day, and we will recognize that smile, Tommy.

Blessings to the family. May these warm thoughts help comfort you upon the loss of your beloved husband, father and brother.

Lori and family, I wanted to send my heartfelt condolences to you for the loss of your beloved Tommy. He was definitely one of a kind and loved by so many. I can't imagine that Delray will ever be the same without him. You and your family are always in my prayers. Love, Moe p.s. I sent you a private Facebook message, not sure if you ever check there.

I started working with Tom as a vendor some 10 years ago. During that time, he became a friend. Many days he’d place an order with me and that would take a few minutes, but the call would go on and on as we discussed life, politics, golf, or whatever the trending topic of the day might be. I’ll miss you, Tom. Rest well.

This poem has always brought me comfort. To Tom's family and friends, I hope it does for you as well.

I am standing on the seashore.
A ship sails and spreads her white sails to the
morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her
'til at last, she fades on the horizon.
And someone at my side says, "She is gone."
Gone where?

Gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars
as she was when I saw her
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to
its destination.

The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me,
not her; and just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"She is gone,"
There are others who are watching her coming
and other voices take up a glad shout
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

Back about 15+ years ago, I worked at the Sundae Times throughout most of high school. Mr. & Mrs. Knoernschild were our favorite customers over the years. We loved when they came in, because they would always have genuine conversations with us about how life was going and future plans, and joke around with us too. I will never forget the huge high five Tommy gave me when I told him I got in to my #1 college choice. You always felt like he was rooting for you. He was such a kind, enthusiastic person and I will always remember his bright smile, especially whenever I'm back in Del Ray. To the Knoernschild family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to take comfort in how much of a lasting impact his spirit had on his community and everyone around him (even a high school kid working at an ice cream store).
