On Monday, May 22nd, Whit passed away in Alexandria, VA. He was born in Portsmouth, VA, to Henry and Phoebe Field on November 9, 1948. After serving in the U.S. Army Infantry, Whit attended the University of Colorado, where he received his BA and law degree. After beginning his career at The Coors Corporation in Golden, Colorado, he came to Washington, DC with the Reagan Administration and practiced law at the Departments of Interior and Justice. In September of 2000, he retired from federal service and later served as Vice President and General Counsel at the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust to protect land worth saving in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. He always loved the water and was an avid sailor, scuba diver, and kayaker.
Whit is survived by three sons, John W. Field, Benjamin A. Field, and Geoffrey C. Field; one granddaughter, Clara; and two siblings: his brother, Henry C. Field, and sister, Bronte Carlopio. He also leaves behind the mothers of his three children, Andrea Field and Maureen Haney-Field.
Whit’s family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Everly-Wheatley funeral home at 1500 W Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302. All are welcome.
