I did not know Bill had passed until I heard an ESPN comment about "Kara's late father". I met Bill at his young neighbor Joe Hoggards' tee ball game in Alexandria. Being a women's basketball geek (and a big Tennessee women's team fan) I was dragged over to meet Bill by Joe's moms. We talked nonstop throughout the game. He was so easy to talk to and I felt like we were old friends after one afternoon. His neighbors, Joanne and Judy, assured me he was as great a guy as he seemed...and an even better neighbor. I am so sorry to learn of his passing, and so belatedly!
My condolences to his family and his many, many friends.

We just learned that Bill passed away. We offer our sincere condolences to the family for their loss. We first met Bill decades ago when our son, Christopher, played on a co-ed soccer team with Mary Catherine when both of the children were very young and Bill was the coach. Over the years we would run into Bill at many sporting events. We will always remember Bill's infectious laughter, smile, and dedication to his family. Blessings to the family. Sincerely, the Cooks Family (Cliff, Davita, Chandra, and Christopher)

Was totally shocked upon hearing of the passing of Billy, was thinking about him only last week as I was reminiscing the time shared in Washington,

I recall his dedication to his children and lovely wife Cathy who were central to his life .

An infectious smile for sure and someone with whom I could engage in intelligent conversation about anything that was going on.

Truly sad to think that he is no longer with us and not knowing that he was sick. Last time we got together was in Toronto approximately 9 years ago when he was visiting Buffalo and came up to Toronto for a short visit, we had dinner with now son in law Mikael and Brigitte who have been married for three years now and have a baby daughter Isabelle. ...how time flies.

God bless Billy and condolences to your entire family.

So sad to hear of Billy's much too early passing. Sincere condolences to all his family.
Our love and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
Bill was one of the first people I met when I moved to Washington in 1983. We became friends right away, he became a mentor and opened many doors for me on Capitol Hill.
We worked out together at the Capitol YMCA, I pushed 100lbs and he did 400lbs.
He visited us many times after we moved back to Toronto in 1992.
One of the best people I had the pleasure of meeting...ever. He will be missed.
Josef, Annette , Brigitte and Mikael

To the Lawson Family, Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can not heal. May God comfort you and give you peace. May your many memories of Mr. Lawson bring you solace. We have great memories of him as well. Thanks to him for including our daughter in training for basketball. Mr. Lawson (Bill, as he was fondly called), was a firm, steadfast believer and supporter of basketball and was always willing and ready to talk to you about it. May God continue to strengthen you and give you mercy and grace. The Smith Family (Joe, Susie, Ashley, Cornelius, Zavin)

We are so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. We will always remember the many basketball trips with the Vogues. Bill was a great coach to Nicole and supported all of the girls. He was always a straight shooter and told it like it was. Our prayers are that you will find some comfort in your memories during this difficult time and in the future. Love from the Jones family.

Bill Lawson was an inspiration to me and many of my teammates as he had an incredible way of inspiring you to be your best. Kara his daughter played on our team. I remember thinking practice was over and then came Mr. Lawson and I knew we were about to do some pretty intense drills. He would shout to us, not to give up, to keeping going and his favorite saying was to dig deep. That's just what we did. He not only taught us discipline but he taught us to push ourselves. I remember always wanting to make him proud. I have wonderful memories of him and his family. I am devastated to here of his passing. He was a great man. On behalf of the entire Springfield Storm and Team America soccer clubs we love you and you will be missed. God bless you and may you help watch over my son Wyatt.

Bill Lawson was a terrific friend and mentor.

He was an indefatigable leader on issues affecting Vietnam veterans and was highly respected on Capitol Hill. Millions of veterans were beneficiaries of Bill's thoughtful leadership; and still are beneficiaries.

Dawn and I send our heartfelt sympathy to Kathy and Susan, Kara, and Mary.

Very Respectfully,

Darryl Kehrer

Dear family and friends of Bill's,
Bill and I worked together at TJ. I always enjoyed Bill and his positive, upbeat persona. His pride in his daughters radiated in our conversations. The picture you selected of him captures his energy and joy for life. I respected Bill and was delighted that he was a part of our TJ team.
Condolences to all,
Shirley

I hold in my heart so many wonderful memories ... mostly of the years when our children were young (and so were we!). Bill ... such a good friend, you were loved as if you were a brother. You've left us too soon. But you will not be forgotten ... thanks for your friendship, you were special. To Susan, Kara and Mary ... and Kathy ~ I am truly sorry for your loss. With sympathy to each of you and to all the Lawson family.
Fondly, Ann Adamus

To The Lawson Family,

I was saddened to hear about the passing of my good friend, Bill Lawson. My condolences go out to the family. Bill and I met at Thomas Jefferson HSST where we both worked and became very close friends. We talked about our families and sports every day. I loved sports and he did too. Bill is the one who got me hooked on women's basketball, and today I still a fan. Bill Lawson was a man of character and dignity, someone I always looked up to. I will miss him but I'll never forget him. Ladies, my prayers go out to you and if you need me for anything, my contact information is listed below. Peace
