Rita Elizabeth Flynn, 95, of Alexandria, Virginia, peacefully passed away at home on March 26, 2015.
Born October 28, 1919 in Washington, D.C. to Peter J. Conlon, Jr. and Helen Beall Conlon, of Alexandria, VA, was raised in Alexandria, VA. Rita graduated from
St. Mary’s Academy in Alexandria, VA, and Dumbarton College in Washington D.C.
Rita wed the love of her life, Thomas Joseph Flynn, Jr. January 17, 1942. They were married 56 years until he passed away on December 24, 1998. Over her long and “good life”, as Rita loved to say, Rita was the rock of her beloved family. As well, Rita enjoyed a twenty-year career at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), retiring in October 1985, and a long and a happy retirement.
Rita will be dearly missed by her loving family, only beginning with her thirteen children, her sons: Thomas Flynn III (Dana) of Baton Rouge, LA, Joseph Flynn (Linda) of Alexandria, VA, Stephen Flynn (Jacki Maxwell) of Alexandria, VA, Terrance Flynn (Janis) of Woodbridge, VA, Timothy Flynn (Linda) of Alexandria, VA, and Jude Flynn (Erica) of Alexandria, VA; and her daughters: Eileen Brackens (Bob) of Alexandria, VA, Loretta King (Rick) of Bryans Road, MD, Deidre Ferro (John) of Fredericksburg, VA and Joanna Bryant (Wayne) of Fairfax, VA; her loving grandchildren: Kelli O'Donoghue (John) of Baton Rouge, LA, Matthew Brackens (Antonia) of Springfield, VA, Megan Bourgeois of Baton Rouge, LA; Robert (Cristy) Brackens of Alexandria, VA, Amber Thackery (Matt) of Alexandria, VA, Heather Cleary (Tom) of Stafford, VA, Carly Domingo (Rick) of Dumfries, Ian Flynn ( Jeanne) of Fredericksburg, VA, Patrick Flynn (Meghan) of Wilmington, NC, Andrew Flynn (Jessica) of Wilmington, NC and Adam Flynn (Jaime) of Wilmington, NC, Dugan Flynn (Jennah) of Washington, D.C., Casey Flynn of Annandale, VA, Chase Flynn of Front Royal, VA, and Caitlin Flynn of Eugene, OR, Shelby King of King George, VA, and Tracey King of Bryans Road, MD, Rylliegh and Beall Flynn of Alexandria, VA, Sean Ferro of Herndon, VA, Louis Ferro of Richmond, VA, Daniel Ferro and Rita Ferro of Fredericksburg, VA, and Shane Bryant and Kelly Bryant of Fairfax, VA, as well as many loving great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband. Thomas J. Flynn, Jr., her daughter, Brenda A. Dalton, and her sons Jerome and Leo Flynn of Alexandra, VA.
Family will receive friends from 5-8pm, Sunday March 29th at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 30th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 3801 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA, followed by a reception in St. Rita’s School Annex.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Rita’s Catholic Church or School would be greatly appreciated.
