Alexandra (Aleca) E Pekatos, 88, of Alexandria Virginia, passed away on 14 December 2021. She was the first of nine children born to parents Dimitris and Antigoni on 04 April 1933 in Agrinion, Greece. After enduring the German occupation of Greece and the following Greek Civil War she went to work for the Boy’s Towns of Greek Queen Frederika, providing care to war orphans. It was here she met her future husband Nickolas Pekatos of 63 years, marrying in 1958 in Athens Greece. In 1964 they began their own business, Devaris Fabrics and Needlepoint Finishing for 46 years. She enjoyed working in various charities, such as a local clothing collection and provider to those of need. Her biggest passion was at the Alexandria Hospital where she played a role in the raising of funds to create the new facility they are still in, and then volunteer in the hospital for a total of 33 years. She was a wonderful person, loved by everyone she met.
Aleca is survived by her husband Nickolas Pekatos, their son James Pekatos, their son Spero Pekatos along with his wife Lucy and Aleca’s three grandchildren Christine, Alexandra, and Nicholas. The family has entrusted Everly-Wheatley with the arrangements where the viewing will occur on Sunday, 2 January from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. A Saint Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church funeral is scheduled for 3 January 2022 at 11:00 am to be followed with the burial at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia.
