Amir Farahat Abdelmalek, 41, passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2023, in Leesburg, Virginia. Amir brimmed with empathy, generosity, and kindness. Friends and family across the world mourn his loss.
Amir was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1981, and he was a child prodigy who read books at age three and composed poetry at age seven. As a child, he helped raise money for widows and orphans and literally gave the clothes off his back to the homeless. In 2011, Amir was kidnapped and tortured in Egypt. He survived and immigrated to the United States in 2013. He married in 2017 and his son was born in 2020. Amir’s benevolence continued in death when his donated organs went to people in need.
Amir was a talented artist who specialized in nature photography. In his free time, he played guitar, fished, and socialized with his family and friends. Amir’s happiest moments were playing with his son.
Amir is survived by his two-year-old son, Adam, his wife, Mona Khorshid, his mother, Sanaa Nessem, his sister, Cynthia Farahat Higgins, brother-in-law Jeffrey Higgins, and his extended family. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Everly-Wheatley Funerals and Cremation, at 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA 22302. The buried will be at 1 pm at Ivy Hill Cemetery, 2823 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302.
