ANGELA STELLA SMITH (nee Lewandowski) peacefully passed away on October 13, 2021, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Waleria Lewandowski, an infant boy who died at birth, her brother, Felix E. Lewandowski, and brother-in-law, Stanley G. Gawlik. She also leaves behind her grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Michael Patrick Smith & Meaghan Langford and their child Aiden Michael, Samantha Spriegel Smith, Red Manilla-Smith, and William (Billy) Manilla-Smith.

The daughter of Polish immigrants, Angela was born on October 14, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, and was raised in Baltimore. In December 1954, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corp, did her basic training at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama, and, after graduation, was assigned to the WAC Center scheduling offices (S-3). Angela was briefly stationed overseas at the Southern Area Command in Munich, Germany. She met and married George Eugene "Smitty" Smith while stationed in Germany. She received an honorable discharge in December 1956 and had her first son in Munich. Angela returned to the United States and had two more sons. In 1960, she began work for the Naval Intelligence Command and raised her three boys on her own in Arlington, VA. After retirement in 1992, Angela settled in Alexandria, VA. In 2005, she relocated to Poolesville, MD to live with her sister, Helen.

After a fall in December 2020, her health rapidly declined, spending much of 2021 in a long-term care facility in Maryland. Her daughter-in-law moved her to Arlington, VA closer to their family for the last month of her life.
