Peacefully on March 26, 2018 at her home in Alexandria, VA, Barbara Ann Aitcheson passed away. Daughter of the late Charlie and Hallie Pettey. Wife of the late John K. Aitcheson Jr. She is survived by her sister Mary Jean Jack, Sons, Thomas S. Chauncey and James E. Chauncey. Step-daughter Tipper Gore, Granddaughters, Jennifer Nicole Chauncey, Krystal Ann Chauncey, Taylor Paige Chauncey, and Courtney Renea Chauncey as well as five great-grandchildren. Barbara was born in Alexandria, VA August 10, 1934 at 301 Queen street. A life long Alexandrian and parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Attended St. Mary's School and George Washington High School. Barbara married Morgan Smith Chauncey Jr. and had three children Robert, Thomas, and James. After 26 years of marriage they divorced. Some years later she remarried John K. Aitcheson Jr. who preceded her in death on December 26, 2012. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother always putting the children's needs before her own. Barbara also was known as Mrs. A for her arts & craft business. You would see her most Saturdays at the farmers market on King St. where she acheived some fame for her delightful Christmas Santa's and snowmen. Anyone who knew her said she was a delightful person and a lovely lady! We will carry her in our hearts until we meet again.
A visitation will be held at Everly-Wheatley funeral home on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church on the following day, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with the interment to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
