Barbara J. Spahr

Barbara (“Polly”) Jeanne Spahr passed away on January 17, 2023.  She was 97. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on June 8,1925, to Forrest and Grace Parrott and was the youngest of five children. She attended (and graduated from) Southern Methodist University where she met (and eloped with) a young lieutenant from West Point, William J. Spahr in 1945 who promised to show her the capitols of the world. He kept his promise, traveling to places including Korea, Europe, and the Soviet Union with eventually three children in tow.

She was a voracious reader, loved modern art, the symphony, and the ballet.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bill, and her son Eric (Rosemary). She is survived by her son David (Kathleen), her daughter Sister Anna Hope, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

She will be buried next to her husband at Grace Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Arrangements are still pending.
