Betty Elaine Wendelin

Betty Elaine Wendelin, nee Rizzi, 88, passed away at INOVA Fairfax Hospital from complications from a fall. Adored wife of Ellis M. Wendelin, Jr., Betty was a resident of the Fountains of Washington House in Alexandria, VA.

Betty was born in Monessen, PA in 1929. She was the only daughter of Betto and Bruna Rizzi who emigrated from Italy in the early 1900’s. She married Ellis in 1951 and moved with him to Silver Spring, MD, in 1954. She retired in 1987 from a career of over 20 years as a school financial secretary at Luxmanor Elementary School, Bethesda, MD. In 2005, she and her husband Ellis moved to Ocean View, DE, and then relocated to Alexandria, VA, in 2012 to be nearer to their daughter.

Betty is survived by her husband, Ellis, her daughter Jane K. Wendelin and son-in-law James Callan of Arlington, VA, son Scott E. Wendelin and daughter-in-law Dr. Kimberly Wendelin of Pacific Palisades, CA, granddaughters Katherine C. Wendelin, Christina K. Wendelin, Julia T. Callan, Laura M. Wendelin and Anne M. Wendelin, sister- in- law Ardis Mills and husband Robert Mills of Elizabeth, PA , brother- in-law Karl Wendelin of Pittsburgh, PA, niece Sidra DeRose and husband Jeffrey DeRose, and great-nieces Angela and Bethany DeRose of South Park, PA.
