Tribute

Charles Mark Willard of Alexandria, VA, died on May 12, 2022.  He was a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Charles lived in Alexandria, VA, with his loving wife Pamela, in a marriage that lasted one month short of 40 years.

Charles received his BS in electrical engineering from North Carolina State in  1959.  He worked for 20 years at Western Electric and General Electric designing rocket components and in semiconductor thin film manufacturing.  In 1978, Charles moved to the Department of the Navy where he built radar systems and automatic landing systems for aircraft carriers.  After 29 years at Naval Air Systems Command, Charles retired from Federal service in 2006.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Marion Willard and Pearl Idol Willard, his sisters Doris Willard Dull (Richard) and Sara Willard Johnson (Robert), and brother-in-law Philip Taylor, Jr.  He is survived by his wife Pamela Willard; his sister June Fogleman (Howard); his nephews Robert Wilson of Myrtle Beach, NC, and David Wilson (Harriet) of Cary, NC; his niece Denise Lloyd (Max) of Chapel Hill, NC; his sister-in-law Helen Taylor of Boerne, TX; his niece Sarah Axsom (Ken) of San Antonio, TX; and his nephews Philip Taylor III (Peg) of Wilmington, DE, and Jonathan Taylor (April) of Austin, TX. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, May 25 at Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill, Zabriske Chapel, 3606 Seminary Road, Alexandria VA 22304, 703-370-6555.  In lieu of flowers donations in Charles’ memory may be sent to Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill or College of Engineering, NC State, Campus Box 7474, Raleigh, NC 27695, 919-515-7827.
