Christian Anthony Guerreiro, 21, passed away on August 1, 2018, after a tragic hit and run accident. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey on December 17, 1996 and served in the United States Navy from 2015 until his passing. With a Roman Catholic faith, he received his sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. He is survived by his loving mother and father, Judy and Jorge; his brother, Nate; his grandmother, Rosa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
As an Eagle Scout, Christian lived by the Scout oath and Navy attributes. He was always willing to help someone in need - he succumbed to injuries sustained, while helping his friend. Christian was a very kind, loving, giving and funny person – he loved to ham it up with his friends and enjoyed making others laugh.
His parents constantly encourage their son to be kind, and giving. While in scouting, he learned to appreciate how he could lead and teach others how to succeed, and climb to the next rank. Perhaps this is why he felt obligated to serve.
Christian reported to Navy boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois on November 16, 2015 - just three days after one of the most costly terrorist attacks in Paris, on Friday 13th of November. Christian was shaken by this heinous attack, but was firm in resolve and now, more committed than ever to his new career.
He loved nature, loved hiking, and loved animals. He received many awards throughout his life; including the Navy Achievement Medal (2018), the National Defense Service Medal (2017), and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (2016).
Christian learned that it is better to give than to receive. He died giving of himself, and his time, so that others could succeed. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Tragically, he was taken from us by a hit and run driver on the eve of Wednesday, August 1st, on the Northbound side of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call the Maryland State Police with any information they may have. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
The family has asked that in lieu flowers, donations be made to Mothers against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) (https://www.madd.org/donate-now/).
A visitation will be held at the Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, Virginia on Thursday, August 9th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on the following Friday, August 10th at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
