Dayna Janice Browne

Dayna Janice Browne, 52, died on September 22 in Alexandria, VA, after ten months of treatment for cancer. Born March 5, 1966 in Stafford Springs, CT, she lived in Provincetown, MA and Wells, ME throughout her childhood. She graduated from Dublin Christian Academy in 1980.

Dayna graduated with honors from the University of Southern Maine, and received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Before law school she worked as a professional chef. 

She resided in the DC area for the past twenty years working as a trademark attorney for the United States Patent and Trademark Office; most recently as the managing attorney of Law Office 104. Dayna's work was her passion. She especially enjoyed teaching and mentoring junior attorneys, whom she referred to as her "chickens" or "baby lawyers". She entertained them with collection of larger-than-life office decor and her living-out-loud personality. She always aspired to bring out the best in the people she guided, and was deeply appreciative of those who had invested in her career. 

Dayna is remembered for her great sense of humor, keen intellect, her connection to people, her love of dogs, great food and the ocean. She was regarded as being a straight shooter. She enjoyed house parties, movies and dining out with a tight group of friends that she both respected and loved. Her Sheltie dog, Tavish MacDilly was her close and loving companion. His devotion lingers. 

She is survived by her mother, Lee R. Chalmers and Leo Chalmers, of 51 Hickory Lane, Wells, ME 04090; her father, John O. Browne and Fran Coco, 10 Aunt Sukey Way, Provincetown, MA 02657; her aunts, Lynne Richards and Susanne Egersheim; and cousins, Adam and Carrie Richards, Kirsten Wyzanski and John David Browne; and special friends, Ted and Marisa Lane.

There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1401 Jamieson Ave., Alexandria, VA in the Worship Center. Receiving of guests from 6:30 pm, with the Memorial Service beginning at 7:15 pm.
