LCDR. USN (Ret) Dennis (Denny) Joseph Sullivan, Jr. was born in San Diego, Ca. on Jan. 28, 1932, to RDML. Dennis J. Sullivan and Helen Desmond (Gallagher) Sullivan.
LCDR. Sullivan resided in Alexandria, Va for over 50 years. He attended Gonzaga College High School and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1955, serving as class president from 1990 to 2005. His Naval assignments included 3 WESTPAC deployments; graduating from sub school; serving as an instructor at The Nuclear Power School; stints with the USS Barb, Sarge, James Madison; Executive Officer of the USS Henry Clay; and a final tour in R & D in the Naval Material Command. Post-Naval employment after 1975 included 5 years at EG & G Inc. and 15 years at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a safety and regulations inspector.
He is survived by sons John G. Sullivan, Dennis J. Sullivan III (Yvette) and daughter Theresa A. Sullivan-Harrington (Mark); his 10 grandchildren Megan Harrington (Jason), Kelly Hibbler (Brett), Sam Harrington, Alexandra Payne (Anthony), Alicia Sullivan, Dennis J. Sullivan IV, Robert Sullivan, Lizzie Harrington, Gabrielle Sullivan and Dave Harrington; and 3 great-grandchildren (soon to be 4).
Denny loved watching Navy football games with The Class of ‘55; fishing and boating in the Chesapeake Bay; swimming and tennis at ANCC; attending concerts and operas; vacationing at Bethany Beach; and watching grandkid’s activities.
