Dreama Carolyn (Bond) Hinton

April 3, 1938 ~ February 15, 2020 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Dreama Carolyn Bond Hinton was born in Roanoke, VA on April 3, 1938, the only child of Martin and Sallie Vest.  She died peacefully in her apartment on Saturday evening, February 15, 2020.

She attended elementary school in Roanoke and graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy High School in New Market, VA in 1956.

From a young age, one of her favorite hobbies was playing the piano.  She would regularly play for church, accompany singers and entertain friends when they would visit her parents home.

In the early 60s, she moved to Washington, DC and went to work (as a secretary) for the FBI.  A few years later, she transferred to the Department of Agriculture and remained there the rest of her long federal career. She steadily worked her way up the career ladder, and most enjoyed her position of Director of Legislative Liaison Affairs (responsible for senior management connections/communications with Congress on all agriculture matters).

From the mid 80s, she enjoyed leaving the DC metro area on weekends and heading to a cabin she shared with her late husband, William Hinton and the “best” dog ever, “Bubbles.” After she retired, she enjoyed her friends and family, pool exercise classes with the “club”, and traveling both domestically and internationally.

In 2010, she moved to the Greenspring independent living community in Springfield, VA.  She enjoyed participating in many of the activities offered there, including volunteering with many groups and clubs (Greenspring Fellowship Christian Community, Treasure Chest charities, Democratic Club, etc.).  A stroke in the summer of 2018 dramatically changed the rest of her life, but she continued to socialize with neighbors to the extent possible.

She is survived by her son, Tom Bond and his spouse, Ray Warren.  Stepsons and their spouses, Don and Donna Hinton and Bob and Jane Hinton.  Grandson and his spouse, Bill and Jenna Hinton.

We loved and will miss her very much, but all know that she is in a better place and is not suffering or restricted anymore.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
