MG HAL E. HALLGREN, US ARMY (Ret.)

A longtime resident of Alexandria, General Hallgren died on March 5, 2022. He was born in Chicago, IL and was a 1946 graduate of the US Military Academy, West Point, NY. In addition to his degree from West Point, he earned Master Degrees in Electrical Engineering and International Affairs from the Univ of Pennsylvannia and George Washington Univ., respectively.

General Hallgren served his Army and Nation for 30 years as a Field Artillery Unit Commander and General Staff Officer. His final active duty assignment was as Commanding General, US Army Concepts Analysis Agency.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret Benedict Vinson Hallgren. He is survived by his son Colonel Wayne F. Hallgren (USAF, ret.)(Colette), and his daughter Laura Hallgren Thayer (CAPT Richard Thayer USN, ret) and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on a later date at Goodwin House, 4800 Fillmore Ave Alexandria, VA. A reception for family and friends will follow.

Interment with family members present, at a date to be determined, will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Goodwin House Foundation, 4800 Fillmore Ave, Alexandria, VA 22311.
