Hammad E. Zakee

Hammad Zakee (aka Gary Hemby) passed away on August 1, 2022 from cancer at his residence in Alexandria surrounded by family. A private service will be held with family in Alexandria, VA followed by a memorial to celebrate his life in Greenville, NC on Saturday, August 13 at Paul’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. He retired from the JBG Smith Management Company in 2021 after 19 years of service and spent time enjoying his new craft of designing jewelry and listening to classical music. Hammad (Gary) was preceded in death by his parents Simon and Carrie Hemby and is survived by his sister, Betty A. Biafore (Tony), brothers Simon Jr (Loretta), Gregory and Ronald Hemby, Waver C. Pickens; Nephews Rahn Alexander Hemby, Simon Kyle Hemby, Jermaine Hemby, Gregory Hemby, Nieces Crystal Ferguson-Vaux, Shalyce Hemby, Taylor Hemby, sister-in-law Loretta Hawley, and brother-in-law Anthony Biafore Jr., and special cousins Curlie Spell Green and Sylvia Hemby along with a host of other nieces, nephews, great nephews and friends.
