Karen entered her eternal heavenly home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at home with family at her side in Alexandria, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Joseph and Nancy Lee Pearson. She is survived by her sisters, Lynda A. Pearson and Janet L. Dennis (Charles, Sr.), her niece, Jennie L. Dennis Ritt (Michael), her nephew Charles L. Dennis, Jr., grand nieces, Summer and Emma, and grandnephew, Blaze.
Karen was born in Washington, DC on August 11, 1956 and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She attended Alexandria City Public Schools graduating from TC Williams High School in 1975. She earned her degree in early childhood education from Antioch University (Baltimore, Maryland).
Karen’s professional life included her work as an assistant director/teacher at The Children’s School in Arlington, Virginia. Over the years she has loved and cared for her many students in the Swans Class. She served on the board of directors of Children Together for many years.
She was a lifetime member of Del Ray Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Here she served her Lord by starting the Del Ray Child Development Center and participating in the church’s music ministry by leading the children’s choir, singing in the choirs, and playing her flute for services.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Karen on Tuesday, June 8. Viewing will be at 10 AM followed by a service at 11 AM at Del Ray Baptist Church, 2405 Russell Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Interment will be on Monday, June 14, at 1:30 PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland 20746.
