Kenneth Joseph Sleger

Kenneth Joseph Sleger passed away on November 8, 2023 at age 82. Ken grew up in Northern Ohio. He is the only child of Joseph and Mary Ann Sleger. His Father owned and operated Sleger Home Bakery in Chargin Falls, Ohio.

Ken developed an early interest in home stereo,radio,and electronics. Building on these interests,he became an electrical engineer. Ken graduated from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Ohio and obtained a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His career was based at the Naval Research Laboratory where he advanced from basic research to research management and then to program management.

Over the years, Ken was a member of the AWA and MAARC radio clubs; square dancing clubs; and the Porsche Club of America. He and his wife, Lucille, enjoyed events sponsored by these clubs. Ken loved music and liked to hear live music in all genres and styles.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Lucille, whom he met in Pittsburgh; his daughter, Shannon Sleger; family friend Christopher Cerda; Lucille’s sisters, Roseann Butalla (David Butallla) and Barbara Martinelli (Rob Dillon); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ken was a loving husband and proud Father. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Shannon. Lucille will always treasure their 54 years of friendship and love.
 

There will be a Mass for Ken at Blessed Sacrament Church, Alexandria Virginia on November 17th at Noon, Friends are invited to meet for an informal gathering at Everly Wheatly Funeral Home, which is across the street from the church.

For those who choose to donate in memory of Ken in lieu of sending flowers, the family suggests the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
