Linda Sue Maier

Linda S. (Lindy) Maier, 75, of Alexandria, Virginia, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at home. Lindy is survived by her son, Scott T. Maier, and daughter-in-law, Jeny M. Maier, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Thompson A. Maier and Abigail J. Maier; and sisters Nora Carpenter and Bridget Smith.

Born on September 12, 1947, in New York City, Lindy grew up in Bellmore, on New York’s Long Island. She was the eldest daughter of the late William and Barbara Fagan. Lindy graduated from Wellington C. Mepham High School and received her nursing degree from SUNY Farmingdale. She worked in health care for more than 40 years, most recently in the office of Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City until her retirement.

Lindy was married to the love of her life, Thomas J. Maier (deceased 2019) for 45 years. Since moving from New York City to Alexandria, Lindy enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren, Thompson and Abigail. She was a constant cheerleader on the sidelines of Thompson’s lacrosse and basketball games, and enjoyed volunteering at Blessed Sacrament School.  Lindy was also an adoring mom to her adopted beagle, Aishia (and Eva before her), who brought her such joy.  She enjoyed crafts and her crochet baby blankets were famous among family, friends and colleagues. It made her so happy to share her handiwork with new babies all over. 

Her family will dearly miss her infectious laugh, bright smile, and kind and generous heart.  

A memorial service to celebrate Lindy’s life is scheduled for Saturday March 18 at 11am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 1427 West Braddock Road Alexandria, VA 22302.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Beagle Rescue, Education, and Welfare (BREW), where Lindy adopted her beloved beagle Aisha, or a charity of your choice in Lindy's name.
