Lucy Rose Harwood

Lucy Rose Harwood, 86, passed away on March 24, 2024, in Alexandria, VA.

Lucy was born in Kilgore, TX on November 5, 1937. She attended Baylor University and married Robert K. “Bob” Harwood, Jr., a fighter pilot who honorably served our country for over 20 years.  Bob passed on his love of flying to Lucy and she became the first woman to solo at the Aero Club while he was in flight training.  She received her private pilot’s license shortly thereafter.     

They traveled the world, living in Egypt, Greece and Hawaii before returning to the mainland in 1973. Bob and Lucy were married 55 years until Bob’s passing in 2017.

Lucy was a loving mother and grandmother with many passions. She worked as a model and instructor for Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency in Hawaii. She followed that with a career as a Realtor for Caldwell Banker/ Routh Robbins in Alexandria, VA. Lucy was recognized as a top producer in both listings and sales for many years and earned membership into both the President’s Club and Million Dollar Club.  She then went on to work with Bob in their mortgage company, Harwood Mortgages.           

Lucy is survived by her daughter, Victoria Harwood Bires, and her two grandchildren, Lucas and Nicole Bires of Alexandria, VA.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, 5pm-7pm at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA. Inurnment to take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
