Margaret Dempsey Cox, born in Lignum, VA, on May 30, 1922, passed away peacefully on April 12, just shy of her 100th birthday. A lifelong Virginian, and longtime Alexandrian, Margaret began her career with the US Department of State and ended it with the Department of the Army. In retirement, in addition to devoting much time and attention to her extended family, she was active in Fairlington UMC, and Alexandria Meals-on-Wheels and INOVA Alexandria Hospital Board of Lady Managers (both for 40 years). She leaves her only daughter, Cynthia Demitros (Donald), five grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Sidney L. Cox.
A service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 11:00 AM at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home. Private family burial in Fredericksburg will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in her memory.
