Mary Mansfield Monzuk

January 28, 1953 ~ May 28, 2022 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Tribute

Mary was a beautiful soul. Not much of a talker, but she had a calm, soothing demeanor. She was someone you could trust. Mary sadly lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her adopted family during her teenage years. She was a cheerleader in junior high school. She had a lovely voice and was a soprano in the choir. Mary was a fabulous dancer, she could dance up a storm (she and Lou could disco like nobody's business). Mary began her career at the telephone company while attending high school and received credit for the job. She continued working with the telephone company after graduation and never missed a day of work~ and we're talking over 30 years.  Even after retirement, she found another job and continued her dedication to being a reliable employee. Mary never drove, so her loving husband Lou  was always by her side, making sure she got to work and appointments. She loved decorating her and Lou's home, not just at Christmas and Easter, but ALL of the holidays. Mary won "Best Decorations" awards from her neighborhood community.  She also had so much love and empathy for animals of any kind. For years, Mary would faithfully feed a group of feral cats that lived in a tiny patch of trees and the gutter, near Route 236. I always told her that in my next life, I wanted to come back as a stray cat and live in her back yard.  I remember once, Lou, Mary, a friend of Lou's and I went to a huge flea market in Maryland. There were a bunch of chickens or rabbits, I don't really recall, but packed tight in a small cage. She started crying for their predicament, Mary couldn't bear to see any animal suffer. I loved her so much for that. Aside from her love for animals, Mary was a big fan of the beach, and loved the sun. Lou and Mary would drive to Ocean City together, spend the day and come back in the evening, that's love.

Mary will be missed tremendously by her loving husband, Lou, and entire family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd. Alexandria, VA 22302, on Saturday, June 11th at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary's honor may be made to the ASPCA, or the animal charity of your choice.
