Mulugeta Tefera, born on October 21, 1949 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from his father Ato Tefera Tesfa and Woizero Beletch Negussie. Mulugeta affectionately known by family and friends as “Mule” or "Chulie",entered into eternal peace on December 6, 2020. Ato Mulugeta is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Hanna Merid, and his children Samson Mulugeta, Dawit Tefera, and Elizabeth Mulugeta. He also leaves behind his two grandchildren with one on the way, five brothers and sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He attended Tefferi Mekonnen High School,Tegbareid Polytechnic College and Addis Ababa University for Civil Engineering. At a young age he also developed his love for soccer and later pursued his passion in coaching.
In 1974, Mulugeta moved to Washington D.C. and later founded the Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America (ESFNA) to promote amateur soccer and cultural events within the Ethiopian Community. Over the past three decades ESFNA has become a cultural and sports Mecca for Ethiopians in North America.
Mulugeta was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was dearly loved and well-known for his philanthropy and dedication to the Ethiopian Community. Mulugeta will cherish and loved my his

A memorial service will be held at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, Va. on Saturday, December 12, at 10am followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery 9900 Braddock Road Fairfax, VA 22032.
