Tribute

Nicolas Eric Boring, age 46, passed away on February 2, 2023 in Arlington, VA. He was born on July 31, 1976 in Meaux, France. Nicolas experienced an international childhood, and had fond memories of his high school years at Marcel Roby, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. He graduated from University of Paris Nanterre in 1999 and earned his law degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 2002. His incessant intellectual curiosity led him to pursue a Masters in International Politics from Aberystwyth University in the United Kingdom in 2011. For almost 10 years he worked as a foreign law specialist in the Law Library at The Library of Congress in Washington, DC, where he enjoyed his work and friendship with his colleagues. He is survived by his wife, Erin Catherine Summers whom he married on June 27, 2010 in Savannah, GA, their son Thomas Eric Summers-Boring of Arlington, VA, his parents, Leslie and Annie Boring of Pourrières, France, his sister, Anne Boring of Paris, France, aunts, cousins and many friends. He engaged in many hobbies throughout his life, including magic tricks as a child, building plastic models, theater, playing video games, fencing, martial arts, painting, traveling, history, reading, politics, and stargazing. In the last few years, he discovered a passion for woodworking. In his final years, becoming a father to his son, Thomas, gave extra meaning and joy to his life.

Nicolas will be remembered by his family and friends for his infectious smile, kindness, openness, positive attitude, and overall joy of life. His courage and dignity after his prostate cancer diagnosis in February 2021 were a true inspiration for others. A celebration of life memorial service will be planned at a later date in the Washington, DC area.

Donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org, “Give in Honor & Memorial”) or La Ligue Contre le Cancer in France (https://www.ligue-cancer.net/).

He would sometimes joke that he would like to open a Boring Library. We hope to make this wish come true by creating a bookshelf to honor his memory at Virginia Hospital Center, with helpful books for children who have parents with cancer. More information will be provided at the memorial service.
