Otha Reeves Phillips

Otha Reeves Phillips, née McGinnis, of Alexandria, Virginia, died on January 31, 2023 of congestive heart failure and kidney failure. Otha was born on May 10, 1930 to William T. McGinnis and Otha G. McGinnis in Greensboro, NC and moved to Alexandria as a young girl. She attended George Washington High School in Alexandria and graduated in 1948. In November 1951 she married Charles Carroll Phillips ll (1923-2021) and went on to have five boys, Charles Carroll Phillips lll of Warrington VA, Randall William Phillips of Alexandria, Virginia, Darryl Alan Phillips of Manassas, Virginia, Brian Jeffrey Phillips of Alexandria, Virginia and Gary Reeves Phillips of New York, New York. Otha was also a doting grandmother to Evan, Chandler, Mackenzie and Tessa.

She worked in the Alexandria Public School System and was also CEO of the Phillips household. Otha loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching sports with her boys as well as gardening, traveling, needlepoint, crossword puzzles, camping and spending time in Florida. Otha was a dedicated Christian and served the Seventh Day Adventists Church. She was an amazing woman; kind, loving and loyal.

Services will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria on February 16, 2023 followed by a burial on February 17, 2023 at Quantico National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband of 69 years.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, an organization Otha felt strongly about.
