Paul Gray Ruff

Paul Gray Ruff III was born on March 26, 1938 in El Paso, Texas and passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2021.

 Paul was the much-loved husband of Elizabeth for 55 years. He was loved by his children, Paul, and his wife Jill, Patrick, and his wife Kerry, and Mary Ellen. His grandchildren, Laruen, Allison, PG, Matthew, and Michael were beloved by “Papoo” and he will be missed by his sister, Carla Fawcett, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Gertrude, and his brother, Peter.

Paul graduated from Price Memorial College High School (Amarillo, TX), in 1956 and Benedictine College (Atchison, KS) in 1960. He joined the United States Navy and eventually got his Master's Degree in Underwater Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA) in 1967. After retiring from the Navy in 1986, he continued working for many years as an engineer and scientist.

Paul was happiest when he was with his family. He served as a volunteer in countless ways and was willing to jump in and help anyone at any time. Outside of his work as an engineer, Paul was an avid reader, loved the daily crossword puzzle, and enjoyed woodworking, watercolor painting, and making anything his children and grandchildren asked of him. He was a real Renaissance man.

Paul was very humble. He was always grateful for his family and friends, his faith, and the life he lived. He brought joy to so many. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. 

 A visitation will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home on Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 2pm to 4pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11am. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
