On Monday, May 17th, 2021, Pimpan Srisawasde, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302, on Sunday, May 23rd, 2021 at 12:30 pm.
Kun ma Pimpan Srisawasde was born on July 8, 1937, the youngest of four children born to Sangwan and Khun Pittayavisutra Saravisutra in Bangkok, Thailand. Nicknamed Por, when World War II clouded the land's future, Kun ma Por and the family moved out to the countryside for their safety, dealing with scaricity and getting by as best they could.
After the war she attended the Benjamarachalai School, an institution located in the old palace of Prince Marubongsa Siribadhana. Upon completing her studies she joined the Thai Army and served at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. While there she met a young man, Prayut Srisawasde who became the love of her life. They married and began a family which blossomed with three children, Porn, Pim and Pum. While serving in the army she received the "Companion of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant" and the "Of the Most Noble of the Crown of Thailand" awards, reflecting her exceptional hard work and dedication.
When the family immigrated to America in 1990. Kun ma Par's background and military training gave her a toughness and "no nonsense" manner in dealing with the more important matters of life. But no matter how tough the going got, she always moved through it with a big heart and respect for everyone. Kun ma Por was humble, tolerant and an enjoyable person to know and share time with.
She also had a lighter side. For example, she went water tubing with family when she was eighty while wearing a big grin on her face. In fact, she had a smile and conversation for everyone who knew her. She maintained this right up to her last days as she ingratiated herself to the doctors and nurses helping to take care of her.
Our thanks go out to DaVita, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, and all the people who helped in her final days. She will be dearly missed.
