Richard “Dick” Du Bois, 80, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Spencerport, NY, passed after a short illness in Arlington, VA. Dick was born in Newark, NY, where he attended high school, and always spoke highly of his childhood in his hometown. Always the adventurer, he decided to sample several colleges before settling on SUNY Brockport, where he earned his Bachelors and Masters's degrees. Dick found his passion as an educator! He had a long and rewarding career as a 5th-grade teacher, and sponsor of the Young Astronauts Program, with LeRoy Central Schools. Throughout his career, Dick inspired many and was inspired by his colleagues – especially those on the 3rd floor.
Always quick with a joke, Dick’s sense of humor and laughter was infectious. He showered his love and affection on his daughter, Lisa, and grandson, Will, and all of his furry family members throughout his lifetime. An avid traveler, Dick loved to go on adventures with his family and to cruise with his late wife, Linda. Dick loved to try new foods and restaurants – and always enjoyed a Rob Roy extra dry with a twist.
Dick received many accolades over his lifetime, and he was proudest of his Spencerport Citizen of the Year Award (1992) and his Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Club.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife Linda (Burns) DuBois, his parents Elmer and Lois DuBois. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa DuBois Headley (Phil), and grandson, Will, of Falls Church, VA. Celebrations of Dick’s life will be held in Falls Church, VA, Spencerport, NY, and Spring Hill, FL – details will be provided via social media.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Dick’s memory to Spencerport Rotary Club. POB 274, Spencerport, NY 14559 or The Rotary Foundation ( https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/take-action/give). Dick always loved to toast - raise your glass and toast him with a Rob Roy, your drink of choice, or a hamburger-no hard roll- with extra crispy fries from Schallers.
