Richard "Rusty" N. Shaw

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard “Rusty” Shaw of Alexandria, Virginia announces his sudden passing on March 23, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born on August 30, 1955, in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Kenneth Bernard Shaw and Mamie Esther Easton. Rusty grew up in Vienna, Virginia where he graduated from James Madison High School in 1973. He was an avid Redskins fan, a skilled handyman who could fix just about anything, and most of all loved his family deeply. He was a man of many talents, one of which was cooking and baking. His annual Christmas cookies were always a highlight of the season.  Rusty had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good joke or funny story. He was happiest with his family at their beach house in the Outer Banks, which he built with his brother from the ground up. Rusty was generous and kind-hearted. He enjoyed giving back to his community by volunteering at the Washington Street United Methodist Church Open Table Ministry, where he could often be found in the kitchen serving as a chef.

He is survived by his children Matthew Shaw; Adam Richard Shaw and his wife Crystal; Rebecca Thomas and her husband Joseph; brother Rick Shaw and his wife Gloriana; grandson Harrison Richard Shaw; life partner Carroll Robertson; Carroll's sons Craig Robertson and his wife Beth; Jeff Robertson and his wife Ritika; and her grandchildren Warren Robertson and William Robertson. 

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Street United Methodist Church, 109 S Washington St, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.
