Rosemary (Ralston) Merritt resident of The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods Virginia passed away, at the age of 90, on Friday the 1st of February.
Rosemary was born December 18, 1928 in Lawton, Oklahoma. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and master's degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland where she graduated with honors as a Phi Beta Kappa.
She married Jack Merritt on October 31, 1953 in The Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill and together the couple had 3 sons.
Rosemary was strong, humble and kind. She loved purpose and staying informed. Her love for books and the newspaper was known to all who spent time with her. Rosemary loved to travel. She also loved gathering with people. Some of her favorite gatherings included: investment club, tennis, meeting with friends at the Army Navy Country Club and playing Bridge. Rosemary loved her family and can be remembered sitting with a smile on her face, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her husband, General Jack Merritt, USA, (Ret.) and son, Stephen Merritt.
She is survived by her sons Woody Merritt of Owasso, OK, and Roger Merritt of Boynton Beach Florida; 6 grand children: Michael Merritt of Guthrie, OK, Katie Young of Colorado Springs, CO, Sheridan Jones of Edmond, OK, Piper Merritt of Owasso, OK, Kathleen Merritt of Morristown, NJ and Anne Merritt of Morristown, NJ; and her 3 great grand children Jadyn Young, Nolan Young and Jaxon Young of Colorado Springs, CO.
Services for Rosemary Merritt will be held on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 3pm at the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Virginia, followed by burial in Arlington National Cemetery
