SGT James Ernest Smith, Jr., United States Army

James Ernest Smith, Jr., Sergeant, United States Army.  A native of Sedgwick, Kansas, SGT Smith served in Headquarters Company (HQ Co), 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment (HQ-1/23rd INF), 2nd Infantry Division (2nd ID) and served with the division as it advanced through North Korea in 1950. SGT Smith became a prisoner of war (POW) while engaged in action with the enemy.
