SGT John V. Phillips, United States Army, age 25, died July 27, 1942 while being held as a Prisoner of War in the Philippines during World War II. He served with the 31st Infantry Regiment and was captured and imprisoned in the infamous Cabanatuan Prison where he perished along with thousands of his comrades.
