Sharon Marie Mitchell

December 16, 1951 ~ March 10, 2019 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Tribute

Sharon Marie Mitchell, 67, of Alexandria VA, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 10 and was greeted warmly in heaven by her mother, Nell Marie (Lineberry) Mitchell and father, Earl Preston (Mitch) Mitchell.  Born in December of 1951 in Toledo Ohio, Sharon spent most of her early years in Alabama, later moving to Nebraska where she graduated from Westside High School in Omaha.  Post-graduation, this Westside Warrior attended Drake University where she became a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Sharon later graduated from Auburn University.

Post college graduation, Sharon began a career in human resources for the United States Air Force.  In 1983, she received a promotion which transferred her to Andrews Air Force Base, now Joint Base Andrews.  As Sharon continued her work, she rose to work with the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force in Force Management Analysis where she retired after 35 years of service to her beloved country.

In retirement, Sharon devoted her time to many charitable causes, most notably the Twig (the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital) as well as serving as a docent at Mount Vernon Estate, even as far as serving as a loving dog caregiver for Barkley Square Pet Services.  Sharon also spent the past few years working at the Hallmark store located in the Bradlee Center.

Most noteworthy beyond Sharon’s work and schooling is her love of people.  She had a deep love of her family, sister Joan (Larry) Crawford, step-brother Charles (Robin) White, step-brother Ronald (Mary) White, step-sister Pamela Whaley, 4 nephews, 4 nieces, and 4 great-nieces and a great-nephew and many cousins and extended family members.  Aside from relatives, Sharon was an avid collector of friends, where she was often known as a true social butterfly.  These friendships were very deep and true friendships which Sharon treasured deeply which bred a talent for always finding the perfect gift.

People who knew Sharon will know her not only for her deep interest in getting to know you and developing a true friendship, but also her quick wit and sharp sense of humor.  Sharon always brought life to any party.

Sharon was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church where she attended, religiously.  Sharon’s absence in her Sunday Fellowship Class will forever be felt.

A lover of anything Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, traveling, puzzles, and diving, Sharon will leave a hole in our hearts.
