Tracy Jean Spellman passed away on March 13, 2023, at the age of 61, after a five-year battle with cancer.
Tracy was born in Raleigh North Carolina to Betty and David Vick on August 23, 1961. She spent her childhood in various locations in Virginia and Maryland.
Tracy was a strong fiery spirit that knew how to roll with the punches and could hold her own. Those lucky enough to be loved by her knew what it was to be loved whole-heartedly, unconditionally, and intensely.
She was beautiful, feisty, funny, loving, creative, passionate, complex, strong, unpredictable, and resilient.
She was an active debater, and anyone loved by her knows what it takes to debate with her.
And anyone that’s been loved by her, would give anything to have just one more conversation with her regardless of the content.
You see …. When you lose someone that you love … you miss them whole-heartedly.
The lines between the good and bad times .. or the good and bad traits disappear, and you realize that everything about them was beautiful.
Her debating was rooted in love … If she argued with you … she loved you. It means she cared enough to fight for understanding.
Her feisty was beautiful … in her feisty I saw her grandmother … Lucille.
Her complexity was beautiful … in her complexity I saw her struggles. I saw a woman that refused to let life break her. Her complexity was her scar .. grown overtime from a lifelong journey that wasn’t always easy.
Her unpredictable was beautiful …. From her unpredictability … funny memories and unexpected adventures were born. I’ll miss the mid-day urgent calls for her Amazon order of bubble gum and the treasure hunts through her nightstand where you’d find her stash of candies, pecans, or sodas.
Tracy was happiest being surrounded by her friends and family.
She is survived by her mother, Betty Knight, three children Tiffany Burnette, Sadel Lassiter, and Kenneth Spellman, grandchildren Mackenzie Cherry and Jordyn Wilder and brothers Larry Moore, Tyrone Vick, Tony Vick, and Bobby Vick, stepbrothers and sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tracy is preceded in death by her grandmother Lucille Moore, father David Vick, stepfather Jimmie Knight, and brother Timothy Vick.
