Waneta (FURBALL) was a wonderful friend and member of our local BookCrossing group. She was my roommate when we went to Dublin, and we spent a lot of time trading stories, having meals, and exploring Ireland together. She was always a great presence at our meetings and book giveaways, generously sharing her time and the books she loved. I will cherish the books on my bookshelf that she recommended to me (some of which I'll pass on so they can be read again and again by new readers and some of which I'll keep for myself so I'll always have something of hers). We have a small tribute on our website with some photos you might enjoy seeing: http://www.bcindc.zoiks.org/about-2/remembering-furball/ I am so sorry for your loss. Please know she will be missed by book-lovers around the world.

I am so saddened to hear about Waneta’s tragic death. I met and knew Waneta as "Furball", her Bookcrossing name. I always enjoyed her sense of humor at the BCinDC, Bookcrossing meet-ups and book fairs. I will miss her very much especially at the next BC in DC holiday party, “1st Line" party game. She always found books with interesting, quirky 1st lines. Being a cozy mystery fan as well, I ended up with many of the books she registered. She had the greatest sense of humor and could make anyone laugh, she was a hoot. She was a kind and gentle being. I am so sorry for your loss. May you find solace in knowing she had a wonderful group of friends who loved her and will always remember her.
most sincerely,
Anna

I'm saddened to hear of Waneta's passing. However, I know her better as Furball from Bookcrossing. She was a lovely, giving, generous person in our lives - and yours. Her memory and spirit will still be with us all every time I pick up a Bookcrossing book and find her BC name inside the cover (and believe me, there's a lot of them in my collection here in Australia).
In 2008, I did a collage of bookmarks; and Waneta sent me a handful of Marshal bookmarks; and soon after I finished it I asked if anyone who was taking part would like their screen names on the piece. Waneta put her hand up and I wrote her name on it... it's still there, along with other names. The piece is called 'Spread the Word (of bookcrossing)'.
We will all miss her online. I know you will all struggle in the first year; as she was taken too soon from us all. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I was terribly saddened to learn today of Waneta's tragic death. She had been a long-time member of my local BookCrossing group, BCinDC. She loved to spend time with us, particularly at book festivals where we'd give away hundreds of free books to whoever wanted them, at BookCrossing meetups where we'd just sit and chat, and at our annual holiday party where we'd always direct murder mysteries (her favorite genre) to her. We will miss her presence greatly.
Rest in peace, dear friend.

So sad today to find this information when I looked on Google after not hearing back from a few emails. FURBALL (a name she happily answered to) was a cherished member of the BookCrossing in Washington DC ( BCinDC ) family. We loved to exchange books with her (she and I liked the same kinds of mysteries) and to hear stories about her cats. She was always planning her next elaborate Halloween display and her next trip. I had the privilege of spending time with her during her trip to the Dublin BookCrossing Convention in 2012. Her smile and her kind spirit will be greatly missed. Hugs to her family and friends.

I knew Waneta through our local BookCrossing.com group, where she'd been an active member for years. She always made me laugh. She loved cozy mystery novels and cats and always had a funny comment. I'll miss her.

I never met Waneta in person but knew her for many years through emails and phone calls, she was always willing to help, whether it was a passport issue right before COB on a Friday, or a timekeeping issue. I will miss her witty and quirky emails about WEBTA, especially over any holiday weekend, they were always fun to read!. She really cared about making sure we got paid. My condolences to her family and to the rest of the USMS family that will greatly miss her. She was one of a kind!

My condolences to Waneta's family, Waneta was a caring person with a great sense of humor. I have have known her for the past 16 years at work. I always enjoyed the emails that she would send with her particular sense of humor included in every one of them. She was also very professional in her work. What a tremendous loss. I will greatly miss her.
