Waneta Marie Achaj

Wanta passed away on February 2, 2017. She was born on September 25, 1958 and lived her entire life in Alexandria, VA in the house her father built. She liked the little things in life and enjoyed gardening, reading, entertaining the neighborhood children with her homemade Halloween decorations and her cats. She traveled around the world searching out new friends and taking in the Olympic games. Waneta was loved by all who knew her and her quirky personality was contagious. She could hold a conversation on the merits of Star Trek, super heroes and all things invisible to Muggles. She was an original being in this world. She knew what she loved and she defended those loves fiercely. Waneta was a mainstay and guiding light in her family.

Waneta Achaj has served the United States government as a Civil Service employ for over 33 years.  Specifically, Waneta has selfless served the United States Marshals Service (USMS) for over 30 years.  Waneta began her career with the USMS as an Enforcement Clerk within the Associate Director for Operations, Enforcement Operations Division. She worked her way through the ranks with various assignments in ISD and IOD, where she was currently employed as an Administrative Assistant; responsible for the division’s timekeeping and passport program. Waneta distinguished herself and was awarded numerous on the spot, time off, and quality step increase awards over her 30 years. 
Waneta began government service on 14 April 1983, with Administrative Offices of the United States Courts. 25 Nov 1984 Waneta began working for the USMS Eastern Virginia, Alexandria Office as an Administrative Clerk. 02 Mar 1986 Waneta was promoted to an Enforcement Clerk for the Associate Director for Operations, Enforcement Operations Division. 01 Oct 1996 Waneta began work as Administrative Assistant for Investigative Services Division, Oversight and Support Division. 14 Jul 2002 Waneta worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Investigative Services Division, Office of the Assistant Director. 04 Jan 2009 Waneta began work as an Administrative Assistant with the Investigative Operations Division, Program and Policy Branch. 

Waneta is survived by her sister Margaret Evans, Brother Tony Shephed, nephews and nieces Cathy, Thurman, Shane, Kimberly and Anthony and their children as well as her dearly loved four cats.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 13, 2017 starting at 1pm and running until 3pm at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302; (703) 998-9200; www.EverlyWheatley.com
