William Thomas Harvey passed away from Leukemia on June 7, 2022 in Alexandria, Virginia. Born October 28, 1944, in Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of Bernice and Jack Harvey and grew up in Thomson, Georgia. He graduated from Thomson High School, attended West Point and graduated in 1966, and received a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He served for 30 years in the US Army Corps of Engineers in world-wide assignments including Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, San Francisco, and the Pentagon until his retirement in 1994. Following military retirement, Bill owned a consulting company for 25 years.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his spouse of 53 years, Susan J Harvey of Alexandria, VA; sons David L Harvey (Patrice) of Vienna, VA, Donald T Harvey (Shannon) of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren Megan, Eileen, Kevin, Erin and Sean; brother Jack Harvey of Washington, GA; sister Mylle Mangum of Eatonton, GA; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Bill's approach to life was one of enthusiasm, skill, and effort. His professional accomplishments were eclipsed only by his dedication to his family. His zeal for life was reflected in his active community engagements. He touched the hearts of many and his departure will be deeply felt. His devotion to his special activities was evident, from cherished times spent discussing investments with the grandkids to cheering on his favorite team, DC United (soccer). A funeral service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community, 1427 W Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA, at 11 am on Friday, June 17th. A reception will follow at Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
