Tribute

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Barbara Post Hodges. Barbara passed away on March 19th with her family by her side.  She touched many lives, particularly in her career as a primary school teacher. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, and selfless woman.

Barbara was from Buckhannon, West Virginia, the daughter of Zaner Post, a naval officer and dentist, and Martha Lodge Post, a teacher. Barbara’s inclusive ways and empathy for her fellow human beings who were less fortunate than she were some of her enduring characteristics.  She was an avid reader, dedicated and tireless educator, and international traveler.

Upon completing her bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State University, Barbara traveled to New York City to work for a financial services firm, then as an editor at a publishing house.  Eventually, an opportunity surfaced to fulfill her highest aspirations, that of becoming an elementary school teacher.  While teaching by day, she enhanced her professional skills by earning her master’s degree in communications from New York University during her free time.  Her desire to travel led her to apply for a teaching position with the Department of Defense Schools System.  Her first overseas teaching assignment was at Neubruecke Air Force Station, in Birkenfeld, Germany, where she met her husband, Rudnaldo,  “Butch.” Thereafter, she taught wherever her husband’s Air Force career led them, including in Oklahoma, Saudi Arabia, Maryland, and Virginia, and then back in Germany for a second time.

Her proudest achievement was raising their two sons.  Barbara’s nurturing of her husband’s career as a United States Air Force officer was a key factor in his serving our nation with distinction.

She is survived by her husband, Butch, and their two sons, David and Daniel, their wives, Halyna and Calli, and her sister, Cyndy Guzzi, and brother-in-law, Johnny Guzzi.

Barbara was a strong believer in the journey and the quality of life. The following quote by the Brazilian lyricist and novelist Paulo Coelho best describes Barbara’s steadfast belief in life’s journey.

“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”

May God bless Barbara and the Hodges family!
