I would not have been a DC tour guide had Ruth not been my trainor and Mentor. She was helpful in her honesty and calming in her compassion.

I will miss you Ruth.

At the end of my training with Guide Service in 1986 I was allowed to ride on a tour with Ruth. She led the tour with charm, imparted good information but kept it light and was a delight. We also toured together on a two bus group. The following year she became one of the trainers and I wished she had trained me and my group.
She reached a good age and was blessed to go in her sleep.
So many of us will remember her with a smile!

In 1997 I started training with Guide Service and Ruth was one of the instructors. She was wonderful and admired by all her students. Her lovely red hair added to her personality hinting at a little feistiness in this proper lady. Blessings.

More than a decade ago I was in my late 50s, I decided to start a new career as a D.C. Tour Guide. I was rather nervous as I thought I would have to keep up with much younger instructors and guides.
Well meeting Ruth proved me wrong. She trained me and what a wonderful experience.
Ruth was a fabulous instructor/ mentor and she really represented HOSPITALITY.

I'm sorry to hear that Ruth passed away. She was a special friend and a very special person. We looked forward to seeing her when our tours came to DC. She would plan special activities for the drivers and myself. She and Len would take us on activities and dinners after hours. Even entertaining us at her home. She didn't have to but we enjoyed each others company so much. She will be missed. My sympathy to the family. She talked about her family a lot.

Sad news indeed. Ruth was a fabulous teacher/guide and an inspiration to all in our class through her knowledge, upbeat personally and enjoyment with her work. One incredible memory for me was the day we trained with Walter and Ruth in Arlington National Cemetery, for 5 hours in a snow storm! Many of us were amazed that Ruth, not only kept up with us, but remained so positive through the snow and wind and freezing temperature. She was such a trooper! My prayers and thought are with her entire family.

Ruth was my first instructor in tour guiding. She personally gave me words of encouragement that I probably think of on every tour I give. And I smile when I think of them. Thank you Ruth for your innate generosity and spirit. You will be missed.

So very sorry for your loss - Ruth was a wonderful second mother to us kids and a great friend to our mom. How cool that so many original families lasted all these years in the same neighborhood. Ruth was the last, I think. I am glad I got to reconnect these last few years, I will miss her.
