Welcome to the memorial page for

John Moretti Jr.

January 24, 1930 ~ August 30, 2015 (age 85) 85 Years Old
John Moretti Jr., retired security officer of the Central Intelligence Agency, died on August 30, 2015, in the company of his wife and children.  Mr. Moretti was born on January 24, 1930, the son of John Moretti and Josephine Patla of New Bedford, Massachusetts.  He was preceded in death by his younger brother Joseph, and younger sister Anna.

After high school graduation, Mr. Moretti enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corps and served in the 3rd Marine Division.  He was selected as one of the Marines assigned to the newly formed Marine Security Guard Battalion in 1951 and was posted to the American Legation in Beirut, Lebanon.  It was there that he met and fell in love with his future wife, Rosemary Jean Davenport, who was an attache with the "Point Four" program.  They were married at Saint Rita's Church in Alexandria, Virginia in 1954.  Rounding out ten years in the USMC, Mr. Moretti was hired by the CIA and served in a variety of domestic and overseas assignments.  He retired in 1986, and enjoyed many pleasant years with his wife and family.

He became a charter member of SIGNA, the Association of retired CIA security agents and participated in years of social activities.  He loved traveling the globe with his wife.  He was an avid reader, and was an expert in US military and intelligence history.  He served for twelve years as the head usher at Saint Rita's Church, and was very fond of the parish school and the religious training the children received.  He was generous to many charities, and helped to fund the life of a poor child in South America.  He always had a soft spot in his heart for animals, and donated frequently to the Alexandria Animal Rescue League.  He will be remembered by all for his warmth, good humor, and love of God and country.

Mr. Moretti is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean, his oldest son, Reverend Mark Moretti of Warrenton, Virginia; his daughter Rosemary and son-in-law Michael Coakley of Stafford, Virginia; and son Scott of Manassas, Va.  He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lauren, Christina, Rebecca, Samantha, Olivia and Jack.
