I lost touch with Josh at some point several years ago between deployments and moves across the country. I found out today of Josh's passing and am deeply saddened. I met Josh in OCS and we became great friends. He would come home with me on the weekends to my parents house for sleep and relaxation after the long weeks in Quantico. Later he visited me at Virginia Tech while he was in law school at UVA. He was a true friend and I and my family were blessed to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

I knew Josh in college, as we were Ashbrook Scholars together. He was handsome, charismatic, intelligent, and so funny. I cannot believe that he is gone so young. My condolences to his wife, son, mom, dad, and sister.

I was so saddened to just hear of Josh's passing! We were out of town last June and only learned of this when I read it in Joan Morog's obituary. My deepest condolences to Judy, Huey and Lisa and of course Josh's wife and son. Josh was a special person and truly a gift to all of us during his time here.

Josh was one of the greatest men I have ever known. Humble, kind, compassionate, scholarly, thoughtful, and loyal. I only knew him for two years at Ashland University but the memories of Josh continued to inspire me through the years. He was one of those rare people you come across in life who makes you a better person by simply being around him. I am honored to have known Josh and I pray for the strength of his family and friends.

I just heard about this and am still In awe. I just cannot believe that the virile man and awesome prosecutor that I knew is gone so fast. My heart hurts for his family and close friends. He was an excellent attorney and an outstanding Marine Officer. I am proud to have served with him. Semper fidelis

I just heard the news, what a devastating loss. Josh was one of the best people I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. He was such a kind and amazing man. We spent a great deal of time together in law school working on veterans issues, political stuff and talking about the Marine Corps. He is just too good to be gone so young. My heart goes out to his family. We are diminished.

When Josh first returned to the office after his first few rounds of chemo, he immediately made a point to help out another fellow co-worker who had also become ill soon after his wife had a baby. We sat by each other for a couple years, and he never had an unkind work to say about anyone. Always a sweetheart, and always a caring friend. A true gentle soul. God bless your family in these extraordinarily trying times.

Josh Kirk is one of the finest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We were roommates in law school, and I don't believe he and I ever had a single disagreement in two years of living together.

I met Josh during Officer Candidate's School, in the summer of 2000. Conversations with him sparked my initial interest in becoming a Marine judge advocate. When I was applying to law school in 2001, Josh sent me his personal statement. With characteristic humility, Josh described himself as a "self-proclaimed scholar-athlete." I borrowed some of his ideas from that statement--and Josh later mailed me a check to buy a beer in celebration after I got in. Josh was much more than a scholar-athlete: a selfless person, a kind friend, and a public servant. Josh and his entire family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I remember Josh and his family as I grew up as his next door neighbor on Jefferson Street. We lived to the right of him and my Grandparents lived across the street. I remember swinging on his front porch playing outside and sampling the grapes in his back yard every summer. Later I went to Clearview with him where I knew him to be a great scholar. My heart goes out to his family as you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad news. I went to high school with Josh and remember him as a kind, caring and smart guy. I see in the pictures he looked happy, was a father and continued his military career serving our country. A big loss for many! May God grant you the strength to get through this tough time and carry on his memory. May he rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Josh. My memory of Josh goes back to elementary school. He was an unforgettable student. Josh was a creative, skilled student artist. He was a high achiever academically. He was kind to his classmates. I'm sure that as he grew up these qualities multiplied. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. I will keep Josh and his family in my prayers.

I'm still very much at a loss for words. Major Kirk was my OIC for almost my whole 4 year enlistment. Everyday I worked for him was a blessing and when I think back on my fondest memories of being in the Marine Corps, they all included him. I'm still absolutely speechless, he was a great man, a great OIC, and a great Marine. My thoughts and prayers are with Erin and the family. I'll miss you Sir. Love you.
